Plaque description
Originally "Violet Bank Cottage" built c. 1798 partly on Little Courthaye for 5th Duke of St. Albans. Early example of "Sidmouth" Cottage style. In 1802 Duke's 3rd son, Admiral Lord Amelius Beauclerk, a distinguished naval commander and Gt. Gt. Grandson of Charles II and Nell Gwyn resided. Attended George III at Weymouth and afterwards close associate of Royal Family for 40 years. Sold 1823 to Commander John Carslake of. Cotmaton (opposite) and renamed "High Bank", 2nd floor and balconies added. For many years thereafter let to genteel families a rent £2.50 pew. inc. Hemphaye Cottage stabling and coach house.

Carry on down Seafield Road and find Littlecourt on the left a few yards down. The plaque is located on the front of the conservatory entrance.

28. Greenfield

Plaque description
Former home of Sir John Ambrose Fleming, M A. D.Sc., F.R.S. (1849-1945) Inventor of thermionic valve. Designed Poldhu Wireless Station for Marconi, used in his first transatlantic transmission to St. John's Newfoundland in 1901. He designed and lived in this house 1926-1945.
Where is this plaque located?
As you exit the Royal Glen Hotel turn left and walk to the cross roads. Turn left here and follow the road along for roughly 300 yards where you will find Greenfield on the left. Although a private dwelling the plaque is located on the front wall on the outside of the property.

Where is this plaque located?
Kenneway House is located at the end of the drive from Number Four Coburg Terrace. Turn left at the end of the drive and Kennaway House is on your right. There is an access gate on the side of the property that leads to the front door. See what's on at Kennaway...

33. Cedar Shade Formerly Belle Vue

Plaque description
From 1833 to 1835 Elizabeth Barrett Browning lived here with her family. She formed a romantic attachment to George Hunter, the Congregational Minister. In 1835 the family removed to Wimpole St. and in 1846 she married the poet, Robert Browning.
Where is this plaque located?
Walking out of the Woodlands Hotel cross back over the road (the pinch point area) and turn left to walk down All Saints Road. Continue down here and half way down on the left is Cedar Shade Formerly Belle Vue. The plaque is on the front wall by the main gate.
The final plaque is located Back at the Toll House.
To get back to the Byes Toll House you need to walk to the bottom of All Saints Road. At the roundabout turn left towards the Radway Cinema and oposite that turn right back into Salcombe Road. The Toll House is at the end over the bridge.
