Sidmouth has a maritime history, from a traditional small fishing fleet to notable personalities such as Commander John Carslake who served as a midshipman on Nelson's flagship. "HMS Victory" at the "Battle of Trafalgar"
In the 1800's there were plans for a "Sidmouth Harbour" and work started laying the railway track to transport the building stone to the Harbour location. The building work was abandoned some years later.Now in 2007 proposals have been submitted for The "Port Royal Marina" Sidmouth Devon.
